Decorative Art of New Guinea
Published in Hardcover by Peter Smith Pub (June, 1973)
Author: Albert Buell Lewis
Average review score:

Masters of abstract design from New Guinea
This book was first published in 1925, at a time when native artists of New Guinea were still producing elegant decorations on spears and other utilitarian objects. After a brief introductory text explaining some of the basic tools, techniques, and motifs, there comes the main part of the book, a breathtaking series of rubbings from actual spears and other artifacts produced in several areas of New Guinea. Because many of the designs were incised by bone tools around the circumference of the spear shaft, the image presented in the rubbing is of a continual, repeating design of unbelievable exhuberance and animation. These rubbings are rare documents of a design tradition unknown to western culture until the twentieth century, and especially deserving of interest now that these traditions are mostly extinct by the twenty-first century.
The original booklet was published by the Chicago Field Museum of Natural History, and reprinted decades later by Dover publications. The original edition is a prized collector's item.

Decorative Painting: Techniques and Design for Transforming Everyday Objects (Decorative Painting)
Published in Paperback by Hand Book Press (July, 1998)
Author: Tahira Lewis
Average review score:

With this book, you CAN paint beautifully!
I borrowed Decorative Painting from a friend who is already a very talented decorative artist. I read the entire book in one sitting, then sat down and ordered a copy for myself! I especially like the way the book is organized, from Materials and Techniques, to detailed instructions that are mistake-proof. Every brustroke is explained and is accompanied by photos of each brushstroke and how to position your hand. Ms. Lewis tells you exactly which brush to use, how to use it and what stroke to use for every petal, leaf and design. The 20 projects cover a variety of beautiful styles in full-color, from classic florals to decorative scrolls to French Country, my personal favorite! Included are templates, colour recipes, suppliers and brushstroke practice sheets to perfect your style. Lots of photos are a BIG plus!

Dedicated to That Boy I Love
Published in Paperback by Simon Pulse (February, 1990)
Author: Linda Lewis
Average review score:

Fantastic
I loved this book. I read this book over and over again, the binding is absolutly dystroyed. I like how Linda was never afraid to stand up for herself with Lenny, and it made me respect her. Every young girl should read this book, it will show not only the wonderful side of love, but also the hardships of it.

Delicious (Arabesque)
Published in Mass Market Paperback by Pinnacle Books (January, 1996)
Author: Shelby Lewis
Average review score:

Tasty Mystery !
This novel helped me to decide to work for this line of books. Delicious is the story of Bailey Walker, a caterer, married to Sam, one splendid example of male pulchritude. Bailey is satisfied being a wife and mother to her daughter, Fern, until her best friend, Mary Lou, is found dead. Bailey is immediately suspicious.

The manner in which Shelby Lewis combines sleuthing with winning recipes is unique. The book was a nice mystery novel as well as a romance. It reminded me somewhat of Like Water For Chocolate by Laura Esquivel, the way she weaved recipes into the telling of the tale.

The love scenes between Sam and Bailey are passionate and touching. We don't often read of married couples, still deeply in love with one another. And the scene where the ex-husband shows up wanting to make trouble for one of the girlfriends and the women are prepared to take off their shoes and get down in defense of their friend, well, that was one of the funniest scenes I've ever read.

Descartes: His Life and Thought
Published in Hardcover by Cornell Univ Pr (May, 1998)
Authors: Genevieve Rodis-Lewis and Jane Marie Todd
Average review score:

A splendidly researched and vividly written biography.
Genevieve Rodis-Lew is Professor Emerita at the Sorbonne and has written a splendid biography on the life and thought of a major and influential 17th Century European philosopher. Ably translated into English by Jane Marie Todd, Descartes is vividly presented in the context of his time. Drawing upon his own correspondence, Rodis-Lewis traces his disillusion with the Jesuit scholastic method and his attraction mathematics and then to metaphysics. Descartes emerges for the modern reader as a complete and complex man, so much more than a mere footnote in the history of science or the evolution of western philosophical traditions.

Fantastic book
This book transcends the normal run of the mill sci fi. it tells a story that reads like a great film, with concepts no filmmaker can portray about the inter relations of humans, and what we do to each other. its also a story that involves time travel, albeit in a strange manner. if you can find this book you should get it.
